Hauppauge Wintv 885 Video CaptureHauppauge WinTV Standard Mode (VFW) driver. The most popular version of this product among our users is 4.1. The name of the program executable file is WinTV2K.EXE. I've been using a generic BT848 TV card in my old PC for capture and an ATI AIW in my home theatre pc for the past couple of years. So I picked up a WinTV 401 for my main pc last weekend because of people like poptones raving about how great it is for capture and home theatre use. It is great for capture but for Home Theatre use it sucks. I'd rather not use the WDM drivers because I want Vdub to work without problems. (I tried the sourceforge and Hauppauge WDM drivers but neither works as well as the VFW drivers for Virtual Dub.) However you have to use the WDM drivers if you want to run the latest Hauppauge WinTV program. Hauppauges old VFW compatible WinTV program won't run full screen and doesn't deinterlace. So I tried Dscaler for full screen deinterlaced TV but it doesn't support stereo audio with the WinTV and US cable TV. Maybe I missed an option in Dscaler (I don't think so because others have posted the same problem in avsforum.com), but it seems like the WinTV sucks for home theatre use unless you install the WDM drivers and only use Hauppauge's weak WinTV program. I was using Hauggpauges WinTV software for a few hours before trying DScaler. The sound was notibly worse in Dscaler. Hauppauge Wintv 950qA few minutes of MTV while switching between WinTV and DScaler confirmed that Dscaler is running in mono. When I first ran Dscaler with sound set to stereo the sound was faint and very noisy like an untuned radio station. The sound is only clear when set to 'Mono' or 'Speech Channel 1' under the Hardware menu. I thought I had a setting wrong in Dscaler but I found a post in avsforum that discussed the same problem. Dunno exactly how you're doing it, but I use the MSP chip to get sound and route it through the card's line out. I select MSP/Radio from Settings->Audio, then under Hardware->MSP I have 'TV terrestrial FM-mono + FM-stereo' and 'Stereo' checked. I know it's possible in theory to route the audio digitally over the PCI bus, but I admit I don't even know how since this way has always worked; the internal method sounds like it adds another point of failure for Hauppauge's drivers, not something I'd want to risk given their history of driver development (the BT878 VfW capture driver is almost a fluke by comparison with, say, their efforts with the WinTV-PVR). Octopus samsung tool crack. So I take it there pretty much is NO bombproof solution for those of us looking to get into capping and hometheater? I want a card that can do great captures and one that can do all of the other stuff later on that all the home theater guys use them for besides capturing. Is there such a beast around thats solid and affordable and works with everything? About stereo and TV, you never hear it? Somethings wrong there. I hear it all the time. So if I listen to poptones then any ATI card is out of the question (I'm not to into them myself either though) and if I listen to this then the card Pop recommends is out, whats left? I want something that can do everything I ask of it. K this should be an easy one, do I want to try to buy something with a vid in and out or just get a vid card with a TV out and buy a capture card to put along side it? I'm seeing Geforce 2 tis and 3 ti200s with TV IN and OUT and they are looking mighty tempting.
